A Study of Student¢¥s Behavior in the Clinical Practice of Nursing for the Clinical Nursing Education


Abstract
It is necessary that the students of nursing school should be carried out clinical practice to upgrade their qualities and abilities for nursing program. Additionally, it is very important to investigate the student¢¥s attitudes toward the clinical practice.
The study was conducted on 150 junior students in four technical colleges of
nursing during the period of 10 days from September 16 to 26, 1977.
The result obtained in the study can be summarized as follows:
1) Time for the decision to be a nurse were as follows; when the students graduated from high school 58.7 percent, during they attended to high. school 27.6 percent, when they were in primary school 7.3 percent, when they graduated from middle school 5. 4 percent of the students.
2) Motives to apply for entrance to nursing school; encouraged by parents and teachers 22.3 percent, more chance to go abroad 20.7 percent.
3) In degree of satisfaction after being nursing student; only 30. 0 percent of the nursing students showed satisfaction, while 70.0 percent of them were not satisfied with the nursing. The reason for not satisfied with the nur-sing was; lack of systematic development of theory 38. 1 percent, complaints of .nursing students in relation to teaching staffs 25.7 percent.
4) As for the first choice of specialty after graduation, 44.7 percent of the students wanted to work for clinical nursing in the hospital and 18. 7 percent of them wanted to go abroad.
5) Desirable duration of services as a nurse were as follows; as long as pos-sible after marriage 50. 0 percent, no answer 15. 3 percent.
6) As for given hours for clinical practice, average hour per 4 week was 27
in junior class, while in sophomore it was 22 hours.
7) 73. 3 percent of sophomore and 78.0 percent of junior student carried out
their clinical nursing practice during the period of vacation.
8) Only 2.7 percent of the. students who. completed their practice. considered
the :allocated hours for clinical instruction were sufficient, while 86. 7 pe-rcent of them were thinking that as insufficient.
9) For the instruction of clinical practice, 60. 0 percent were Covered by, the clinical professors and 34.7 percent were done by the head nurses.
10) 68 percent of the students carried out their clinical practice without manuals of practice.
11) The scoring of clinical practice of the students¢¥ were evaluated by clinical professors, while 87.3 percent were head nurses.
12) As for the evaluation for clinical practice, 92:0 percent of the students complained on the evaluation with prejudice of instructors.
